Our teachers

Taught by people who teach the way they practice.

A small team. Each of them trained, each of them kind, each of them the kind of teacher who notices without hovering and adjusts without taking over.

We keep our teaching team small on purpose. A small studio needs teachers who can hold the room — who know when to cue more, when to cue less, and when to just sit with the silence. Meet the three who do.

Lead Teacher

Maya Chen

Maya is our lead teacher. She holds a 200-hour teaching certificate and teaches the slow, breath-led Vinyasa classes. Her favorite students are the ones walking in for the first time.

Yin & Restorative

Jordan Lee

Jordan teaches Yin and Restorative. Also a practicing massage therapist — the way a room is held, quiet and unhurried, comes from both.

Weekend Vinyasa

Sam Okonkwo

Sam teaches Vinyasa on the weekends. Taught at a gym before joining Stillwater, and the Saturday and Sunday classes have a slightly more dynamic feel.

How we teach

The room is small so the teaching can be close.

A few things you can expect from every teacher at Stillwater, regardless of style.

  • Modifications offered for every shape. No “I can’t do that” moments. There is always another way in.
  • Quiet rooms, quiet cues. We talk less than most studios. We trust the silence to do some of the work.
  • Time to ask questions. Teachers are happy to talk before or after class. Just say hello in the lobby.

A small note

Are you a teacher who’d fit the room?

We’re always glad to hear from teachers who care more about holding a room than running a sequence. Send a note — we read every one.

Get in touch

Meet us in person.

The fastest way to know if a teacher is for you is to take their class. Your first class is $20 — we’ll save you a mat.
